This dog breed is small to medium in size. The American Hairless Terrier is agile, lively, and well muscled. They are elegant and compact dogs who exhibit an assured demeanor and have an inquisitive nature.

American Hairless Terrier Temperament

Affectionate, playful, and loving dogs, the American Hairless Terrier also tends to be fearless and feisty. This breed does better with older, considerate children that they have been raised with than small children. American Hairless Terrier Care

The skin of the American Hairless Terrier should be shielded from both heat and cold. In summer, this dog requires sunscreen, and in winter a sweater is required. Regular baths are beneficial and a mild shampoo should be used. To prevent dryness, skin lotion should be applied as the American Hairless Terrier is prone to skin rashes. The nails on the feet also require regular trimming

The American Hairless Terrier comes in two completely different varieties: hairless and coated. Within the hairless variety puppies are born with a tremendous, delicate "down" that diminishes by the age of eight weeks, leaving the pet hairless. In the coated variety has a dense, soft and sleek coat.

This dog breed is relatively easy to train. The American Hairless Terrier will benefit from early socialization and obedience training is recommended.
