Cesky Terrier Overview
This dog breed is sometimes referred to as the Bohemian Terrier. The Cesky Terrier was developed by geneticist Frantised Horak in the Czech Republic. Several crossbreedings of the Scottish and Sealyham Terriers produced the Cesky. This dog breed is fairly rare in North America. The Cesky Terrier is popular in their homeland, Germany, Holland and other Scandinavian countries.
Cesky Terrier Characteristics
This dog breed is sturdy, low-set and longer than they are tall. The Cesky Terrier is tough and hardy, and has tremendous stamina. This dog breed is extremely agile, hard working, elegant and an enthusiastic hunter.
Cesky Terrier Temperament
Bred to be less aggressive than most Terriers, the Cesky Terrier makes a loyal and devoted companion dog. They do well with people of all ages and other dogs. The Cesky Terrier does not like to be left alone for extended periods and will become destructive when lonely or bored. They are extremely well mannered and eager to please. The Cesky Terrier is loving, affectionate, pleasant and calm. This dog breed has a very protective characteristic that makes them wtch guard dogs. The Cesky Terrier makes a fabulous companion.
Cesky Terrier Care
This dog breed requires a fair amount of maintenance. The Cesky Terrier's coat should be trimmed regularly and brushed and combed at least twice weekly. Trimming of the hair in the ears and between the paw pads is also needed. The Cesky Terrier has no major hereditary diseases, but is susceptible to a non-life threatening issue known as Scottie Cramp that restricts movement.
Cesky Terrier Coat
This is a single coat dog breed. The coat of the Cesky Terrier is soft, silky and wavy. To be presented in show, the coat should be trimmed short on the back, leaving thick eyebrows, beard and long leg furnishings. Cesky Terriers shed little to no hair.
Cesky Terrier Training
This dog breed is both intelligent and obedient. However, the CeskyTerrier does have a stubborn streak and early socialization and obedience training is recommended. Training should be performed with fairness, firmness and consistency.
Cesky Terrier Activity
This dog breed adapts extremely well to apartment or city living, provided they are sufficiently exercised. The Cesky Terrier enjoys long walks, off-lead play and makes a great jogging companion.
