This dog breed makes a great companion and guard dog. Although intimidating, the Bullmastiff is extremely affectionate. This breed is calm, gentle and even-tempered and thrives on human attention and interaction.
Bullmastiff Characteristics
This dog breed is a powerful, yet docile. The Bullmastiff is shy around strangers and requires socialization from puppyhood. This breed is extremely alert and makes an excellent guard dog.
Bullmastiff Temperament
This dog breed tends to be willful and requires firm handling to avoid dominance issues. Although the Bullmastiff is fairly good-natured, sweet and affectionate, this breed is not suitable for the average dog owner. Because of their sheer size, they are also not recommended for a home with small children.
Bullmastiff Care
This dog breed does not require much maintenance. Occasional brushing with a firm bristle or rubber brush will remove any dead or loose hair. The Bullmastiff sheds very little. This breed tends to slobber and the mouth requires regular cleaning.
Bullmastiff Coat
This dog breed has a superb coat to protect them from the weather. The hair of the Bullmastiff's coat is very short, thick and coarse in texture. This breed has a distinctive black mask around muzzle.
Bullmastiff Training
This dog breed is very sensitive to voice tones. The Bullmastiff requires firm handling and has the ability to do exceptionally well at obedience training.

This breed has a tendency to be a bit lazy. To avoid unhealthy weight gain, the Bullmastiff should be exercised regularly. This breed enjoys long walks or jogs, and requires an average sized yard.
